Did you know...

You are now able to download eBooks from our DSBN Destiny online book resource. It's a simple process, once you log into our school account, select catalogue and then narrow your search to format eBooks then press enter. Your next screen should provide you with all of the books available.

Once you've found your book, select the title and then on the next screen, under the Check Out, you can download the book or read it online.

WOW! what a great conference. I saw some great speakers. Jeff Smith, from the Bone series, was funny. It was great to hear about his Indian influences on this series. Melanie Watt was great too! Did you know that Scaredy Squirrel is coming out on YTV in April? Stay tuned for this.

Calling all paresnts and students! On February 16, Author/Illustrator Kevin Sylvester will visit Sheridan Park School to discuss his books, love of writing, and illustrating too. Kevin is from the Western New York area, Go Bills! and can also be heard on CBC Radio 1. Start time for the event is 6:00 PM. Come on out and support the Parent Council initiative. You will definitely laugh as Kevin describes many funny stories.

Also, we have our annual book fair begining the last week of January. I hope everyone continues to read, read, read, and read. There are many new books at our library. Well, the 2011 selections are finally out. Such an exciting event for sure. Once again, here at Sheridan Park, we will have a Silver Birch Reading Club. I sure hope that all of the junior students will be excited about this programme. If you enjoy reading and love books, come on out and participate. Don't forget: The DSBN Silver Birch Celebration of Reading event in May. An awesome way to culminate the programme.

Welcome back to everyone. The Commons is open for business and students have been coming in experience it. All of the students who come in love the area: The books, the seating, the fact that they can "chill" when they want. What a wonderful space for all to use. Let's keep it going Sheridan Park.

In February, Kevin Sylvester will be here in the evening to speak to our parents AND students. He is a wonderful and humourous speaker. I'm sure he will entertain for sure!

By the way, new books will be arriving soon. Stay tuned...

Here we are five days away from the Silver Birch Conference. This promises to be another exciting event. This year, we had some 14 students sign up but unfortunately, interest dwindled. So, we have one die hard student who will be attending. I'm sure he will have a super time.

Wow, what a successful Scholastic Book Fair. This was the best year we've had in the past three years. We raised $2000. Way to go Sheridan Park students, parents and staff.

Learning Commons Is Open!

Finally, after many hours of setting up and organizing, the Commons will open on Wednesday, October 13. There is still work to do, but students are able to sign out books or work in the Commons on assignments.

Just a big thanks to all of the staff, students and parents for being so patient.
We have many new books for you to peruse.

Welcome back to a new school year. Over the summer, the library and lab have been transformed into the new Learning Commons. We are still undergoing renovations, but soon the students of Sheridan Park will have a chance to sign books out or work on assignments before, during or after school.

Last Call for Books!

All library materials will be due this Friday, May 29th. Overdue notices and fines will be issued next week. The library will be undergoing many changes this summer, so when you return in the Fall, you'll notice some neat changes.

Thanks for supporting the Sheridan Park School Library this year. It was a lot of fun!

Well, the month of May is upon us. The Sheridan Park Library has seen a few changes over the course of the previous few weeks. The BIG change was the implementation of Destiny. This is a great resource for all students and teachers here at SP. There is still a steep learning curve ahead but slowly and surely, we will all be used to this wonderful system. Our Library also has some new furniture. Thanks to the SP Parent Council for the lovely chairs. They are used daily by our students and enjoyed by all. Finally, we continue to purchase books here at SP. New titles are being processed such as the latest 39 Clues book.

Our Library will be undergoing major renovations over the summer. And so, I will be asking for all Library materials to be returned by June 1, 2009. At this point, Library materials will no longer be available for circulation. The change will be worth it!

Hello students:
Why not drop by the Library? We have many new books to peruse and enjoy. We have new non-fiction books exploring the solar system or astrology. We even have fiction novels that will entice... As for Playaways, we have over 20 new titles to choose from such at the 39 clues and Benny and Omar. So, what are you waiting for? Come up, relax in our comfy chairs and enjoy a book today!

Destiny Has Arrived

Our new library search tool has arrived. Over the course of the next few months, our Sheridan Park students will become familiar with this programme. The neat thing is that you can access this from any computer at any time. Destiny is web based. My suggestion is that you book mark the site and use it often.

It has been a while since I last wrote. Just wanting to let the Sheridan Park community know that our Library system will be undergoing renovations. Specifically, the check out system is being overhauled and with this will come many neat changes. For one, students will be able to access our book database from home. Another neat change is in the userface of the site. More modern in appearance.

Another interesting bit of information: Mrs. Breadner's grade 2/3 class is currently completing their Blue Spruce Reading Club. Voting will take place to elect their most favourite book. I post the results on line.

Black History Month

Our Library contains several titles which celebrate Black History, here are two titles.

Okay, so the best use of this space is for you, the students of Sheridan Park, to post your favourite books that you've read recently. I have just completed reading Eric Walters, Voyageur. I have to admit, it is a good book to read. I think my students liked it too, but of course they may not admit that!
